I’m ready for divorce mediation but my spouse is not.
Different clients have different reasons for agreeing to mediate their divorces. Many feel mediation is a better way to divorce because it gives the power to control the outcome. Many people look for the most cost-effective way to proceed with the divorce.
What if one spouse needs more time?
We know that in many divorce cases, the spouses can be in different places in their journey. Some spouses have had a long time to think and plan the divorce and some could still be in shock from unexpected news. One spouse may have moved on with a new relationship while the other is in denial.
When these types of circumstances exist, it’s important to slow down a little bit and give people a chance to prepare for the road ahead. Extra time during mediation is perfectly okay. Even with an extra month or two, you will still be able to complete your divorce through mediation more quickly and far less expensive than traditional litigation.
Sincerely,
Amanda
